Story from Chicago:

Service Dog or Family Pet?

August 26, 2009 carolynettinger

A six-year-old Autistic boy named Kaleb brings his service dog with him to school.  The school, worried that the dog would disrupt the first graders and cause hardship to students with a fear of dogs or allergies, said no to the child bringing his dog to school.  Kaleb’s parents say that the dog is a calming influence, makes him feel safe, and keeps the boy from wandering off as they remain tethered together.  The Illinois Attorney General agreed with the parents and has allowed the service dog to accompany Kaleb to school until the case goes to court in November.

My comment: Go Kaleb! Go parents! Shame on that school!

I had to be taken out of kindergarten because I was in the same boat as Kaleb and cried for my dog every day until they finally took me out of school. It would have been wonderful to have my dog.

My next school worked out because my dog quietly walked to the window near my seat in class and layed down until I got out of school. I would lean out the window and pet him when the teacher wasnt looking.

    Hello,
I have a 11 week old puppy and a plane ticket to the east coast for the holidays- I am afraids to leave him at a kennel- because of diseases etc- and afraid to put him in a crate under the plane- can you help me?

    Hi Joan,

In answer to your question, yes, I can help and yes, you’re right to worry about a puppy at a kennel or under the plane. Both can be dangerous- especially for puppies.

I just got back from new york. I took my 58 pound white fluff-ball of a husky on the flight- to and from with absolutely no problems from the arilines- US Airways and Delta. On the contrary, I sat in the front row and had the attendants doting over her. The flights were not direct and long but she made it without any accidents. For a puppy this will be the difficult part.

Just know that it’s ok if a service animal does pee. one thing you can do is bring a pee pad- keeping a slightly used one in a zip lock sounds a little funny but the pup might more likely pee there if he/she smell the pee scent.

It may be better to have an indirect flight to break up the flight time.

Anyway, I would be happy to set you up with everything you need- registration and documentation, ADA service animal rules (to show business owners), vest, patch and even id card. you can also get a trainer registration and id for yourself (although no one can ask you your disability some people prefer not to be thought of as having a disability, so they use the trainer documentation and their animal becomes “a service animal in training”. although I have trained a lot of dog and consider myself a good trainer I believe the owner must always be the primary trainer. So I leave the training up to you and simpley do the registration.

Bottom line is, it works- I have taken my dog EVERYWHERE!

total cost is $175 to $250 depending on extras you may opt for.

to get this done just email me at dizzyshows@yahoo.com
I will email you the form, then snail mail it back with check or money order and I will get the package to you in a couple of weeks
